Gossabode at Breezy Point, Joe's Pond, VT
This beautiful summer home was built in 1897-8 by Leonard Darling of Peacham, Vermont, for L. J. Eldridge. Mr. Eldridge sold the "cottage" to C. H. Goss, of St. Johnsbury, in 1906. The Goss family named the cottage "Gossabode," and the spit of land it occupied "Breezy Point." The cottage was one of the first to have a substantial foundation, plumbing and a telephone. The piazza was added in 1916. This picture was probably taken in the 1920s. The cottage remains much the same today, and is privately owned.
